WHY iPADS?
After thorough research, it was decided that Apple’s iPads are the best solution for educational purposes. Here are the reasons supporting this decision:
There is a large selection of usable apps, which are kept updated for the ios system
Many schools have good experience with using iPads
Many students have already used iPad
The iPad operating system is easy and user-friendly for both students and teachers
The iPad is a permanent interactive learning tool, just as essential as a pencil case and will be used to learn academic, creative and communication skills. Therefore, it must be brought to school every day.
If you already have an iPad at home that meets the requirements, then your child can use that one.
Be aware that it is important that there is enough disk space, so that the school can install the necessary apps needed for teaching purposes.
ACCESSORIES
Students will be working with audiovisual production in different subjects, where they need to use a headset with a microphone. It does not need to be an expensive one used for gaming. It can just be a headset that can be used with a smartphone. As mentioned above, your child will need to have his/her iPad in a sturdy case which will prevent damage in case of droppage and insure safe use outside the classroom.
OFFICE-PACKAGE
All the students in the school will be able to install the full Office package and use it as long as they are students at Skt. Josef’s School. This will give them access to OneDrive and many other programs. Every student needs to know their Uni-login to be able to use these functions.
APPS
The school will be responsible for purchasing the apps that will be needed in the classroom. The apps will be distributed to the students when needed and later deleted after they are no longer needed, so other students can use the license. The subject teachers choose which apps will be needed.
INSURANCE
Skt. Josef’s School has not insured the students’ iPads. The classrooms will be locked in the breaks during the school day, so students can leave them in their schoolbags. During SFO the iPads must remain in their schoolbags at the student’s own place or in their lockers. The SFO staff can also plan to use iPads for a specific activity, in which case they can be used during SFO. In the event of damage or theft, the parents’ insurance policy must cover the iPads. Parents can apply to Management to get permission for their child to borrow a spare iPad from the school under special circumstances for an agreed-upon period of time.
The conditions at Skt. Josef’s School for offering digital instruction are optimal because of the focus that has been placed on developing network capacity. Every student in secondary and upper primary already come to school every day with their own computer. In addition, lower primary will also bring their iPads and the school has ensured that everyone will have access to a broad choice of digital learning resources through the school’s network. Last, but not least, every teacher has received a computer and where it is relevant, an iPad, for teaching purposes. In that way we are working systematically with IT in the learning environment, so every student develops and strengthens their digital competency. The school has a digital literacy and IT curriculum, which states which skills and capabilities students need to learn from Y1 up to Y11.
